April 2011
Tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce – if grown in a hothouse could all be available to eat in the UK this month. If planning your dishes in advance: carrots, beetroot (many delicious varieties are available of both), spinach, peas, salad crops and leeks can all now sown outside without protection. Planting short rows through the season will ensure the longest harvesting period.

Any frost-tender crops should still be sown in pots indoors, eg. tomatoes first, then later in the month: squash, sweetcorn and courgettes. Early potatoes could already have been planted in mid-March and you can now be sowing your maincrop varieties.

Fill every corner of your garden, patio and window sills with colour and delicious home-grown fruit, vegetables, herbs and salads.
Grow Pots & Saucers in a variety of sizes:  5cm – 13cm
Continue to pot up early and later seedlings.
